At Gatton we had a very interesting case study recently with little Audrey the westie. Audrey came in with ongoing urinary problems. She was straining and unable to produce any urine.
Poor Audrey seemed a little off colour to her owner.
Upon doing a urinalysis and xrays, it became clear that Audrey had some big stones in her bladder which was causing the distress.
Audrey’s owner wasted no time and got her into surgery as quickly as she could.
Audrey’s surgery went well and thankfully, she recovered very smoothly and is back to her happy normal self.
The stones pictured are known as uroliths. These are a formation of minerals that develop in the bladder over time. They can range in size and can be either large or small. The most common signs of having bladder stones can be constant straining to urinate and urinating blood.
The team was so thankful that Audrey made a full recovery and is back to living her best life!
